Muthee & Partners LLP is a Kenyan advocates’ firm with offices in Mombasa and Nairobi, advising clients on matters across the entirety of Kenya. We act for individuals, families, foreign investors, and businesses on questions where careful drafting and patient process matter most.

How the firm works.
We are a small firm by design. The kinds of work we take on — land transactions across the country, contested estates, compensation claims against the National Lands Commission, civil litigation through the appellate courts — reward the kind of attention that a small bench of advocates can give and a larger one cannot.
Every matter we accept is read in full before we open a file. Every client we represent receives the same protocol: a written advice on the law as it stands, a written estimate of fees and likely timelines, and regular written progress notes for the duration of the engagement.
Where we appear
Our advocates appear before the Magistrate’s Courts, the High Court (Civil, Commercial, and Family Divisions), the Environment and Land Court, the Employment and Labour Relations Court, and the Court of Appeal in every region we are instructed to. Matters originating outside Mombasa and Nairobi are handled from whichever office is closest to the registry, with travel as the matter requires.
What we do not do
We do not act in matters where we lack the bench depth to do them properly. We will refer clients to other firms when their question falls outside the practice areas we are equipped for. The list of practice areas on the firm’s website is not aspirational; it is a list of the work the firm actually does.

Sheila Nkatha Muthee
Managing Partner · Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
Sheila Muthee leads the firm’s conveyancing, estates, and commercial litigation work. Her practice has spanned Kenya for over a decade, with appearances at the Magistrate’s Court, the High Court, the Environment and Land Court, and the Court of Appeal across multiple jurisdictions.
She trained in Nairobi at Ahmednasir Abdikadir & Co. Advocates and at S.N. Gikera & Associates before establishing her own practice, which now operates as Muthee & Partners LLP. Her work has included estate administration on behalf of foreign nationals, conveyancing on substantial coastal land transactions, and litigation arising from compulsory acquisition by the National Lands Commission.

How We Work
Four principles.
01
Read the statute.
Every advice the firm gives is grounded in primary authority. The Land Act. The Sectional Properties Act. The Law of Succession Act. The Civil Procedure Rules. The Limitation of Actions Act. We cite chapter and verse, and we make sure our clients see the citation.

Write it down.
Every meaningful step in a matter is recorded in writing. Engagement letters, scope variations, fee estimates, advice memos, progress updates, and final reports. A client should never wonder what was said.

Prepare before you act.
We do not file a pleading we have not read in its entirety. We do not enter a hearing without a chronology of the matter, the authorities we intend to rely on, and the questions we anticipate from the bench.

Tell the client what we see.
Where a matter is straightforward, we say so. Where it is difficult, we say so. Where a client’s preferred outcome is unlikely on the facts and the law, we say so before any work is undertaken on the assumption otherwise.
